This is another article written by the experienced recruiter team at
See My CV to help
job seekers write the perfect CV. However, this article from our CV For Success series is going to focus on what NOT to do.
It highlights some very good points – and several we had not considered before.
Here are just a few of the issues that the
See My CV Team are regularly finding in CVs:
1. An unprofessional / inappropriate e-mail address
2. Too much personal information
3. Far too much career history
4. Far too much Educational history
5. Too many abbreviations and acronyms
6. Speaking negatively about previous employers and jobs
7. Becoming carried away using different fonts and formatting
8. Forgetting to spell check and grammar check
9. Forget to title the CV appropriately
Summary:
We checked with them to ensure we understood why it is so important to ensure that there are absolutely no mistakes or reasons why a CV should not be put forward. Here was their response:
“Job seekers don’t realise that is it quite common to receive over 50 applications for each job that is advertised. Sometimes we will even receive over 100.
Because of this, we have no option but to use the ‘first impression’ ruling to help us to filter the numbers down.
If we spot obvious issues on your CV, your chance of even being added to a first round shortlist is almost zero.”
Well, that makes a lot of sense and in such a competitive market as this, I hope you can see how important it is to make your CV as professional as possible.
